About Us

What is Loring Nicollet Alternative High School?

Loring Nicollet Alternative school is a full accredited high school for students in grades 9-12 who want something different than a large, traditional public High school. Loring Nicollet offers small class sizes (12-18 kids per class) and only enrolls fifty-five students at a time to make this possible. Loring Nicollet has the same core curriculum (English, Science, Math, Social Studies, and Electives), credit requirements and graduation requirements as the Minneapolis Public School System. Students who graduate from Loring Nicollet receive a diploma from their home school in the Minneapolis system (e.g. North or Washburn) as well as participate in our own Alternative School graduation celebration. There is no tuition charge for students who attend Loring Nicollet. The objective of Loring Nicollet Alternative School is to empower high school students to become more aware of who they are and what they need to reach their goals

"LNAS has good diversity in students, teachers, and classes. You feel Welcome." - Cheryl  (student)

"The Core Value of Loring Nicollet is to emphasize on individual strength." -Stephen (Math Teacher)

"When I first got here, I was so confused. The school is really small but it isn’t hard to get used to it. Before I came here, some people criticized Loring Nicollet. Some friends told me a lot of awful things about Loring, stuff like “people who go there are considered dropout students” and stuff like that, which made me feel unconformable. The main reasons I choose to attend school here were: I was behind in credits and I wanted something different from traditional high school. The environment here is pretty ‘chill’. I really like it and I hope I make new friends soon!"  -Leo (student)

"LNAS is the only high school I attended. After being here, I knew I could never go anywhere else."  -River (Alum)

Loring Nicollet Alternative School is a program of Project for Pride in Living, a nonprofit organization created to help people help themselves. The school is located in the Loring Nicollet Community Center, south side of the Downtown Minneapolis area.
